Hornby to Prebbleton Rail Trail opened
The Hornby to Prebbleton section of the Christchurch to Little River Rail Trail is the third section to be completed. It was officially opened today by mayors Bob Parker (Christchurch City) and Kelvin Coe (Selwyn District).
ViaStrada was engaged by Christchurch City Council to undertake the scheme design of the 3.6 km long Hornby to Prebbleton section. Eventually, the rail trail will be 45 km long. Congratulations go to all parties who have made this project happen, especially the Rail Trail Trust, whose vision has been the major driver for the development of this community facility.

I've been told that Torontonians don't let the weather get in the way of their daily life. I can attest to that from my site visits on Monday, as I was definitely not the only person on a bike whilst the proverbial cats and dogs were raining down. I was also told that what I experienced was tame; like Denver and Chicago, Toronto also has a significant helping of snow during winter time, and thus cycleways need to be designed with snow removal and freeze-thaw cycles in mind.
