CAN Cycle Friendly Awards 2009

The Cycling Advocates' Network (CAN) has presented the 7th annual Cycle-Friendly Awards, celebrating initiatives to promote cycling and create a cycle-friendly environment at both a national and local level in New Zealand. The ceremony was held at the NZ Cycling Conference in New Plymouth on 12 November 2009.

Many exciting things are starting to happen around New Zealand, encouraging more people to cycle for transport and recreation. The awards are designed to acknowledge and reward some of the most notable achievements in the country each year.

One of the award categories, the Cycle-Friendly Commitment by a Public Organisation, was sponsored by ViaStrada. This category was won by the Nelson Police & Nelson City Council for their Bobbies on Bikes initiative.

The 2009 CAN Cycle Friendly Awards were presented by the Hon. Jonathan Young. Axel Wilke was the MC for the Awards function. A PDF of the presentation, put together by Axel and Gaz Sanvicens, is available from the NZ Cycling Conference website.
