Congratulations to our very own Glen Koorey, recently announced as a Fellow by Engineering New Zealand Te Ao Rangahau. Fellowship is an honoured class of membership recognising highly experienced professionals who have made a huge impact on Engineering in New Zealand.

Sing along as you check out ViaStrada's 12 Days of Christmas!

Our last official day in the office for 2023 is Friday 22nd December, with most of the team returning to work on Monday 8th January 2024.

We wish all our clients and friends a very safe and Meri Kirihimete and a happy New Year.

A massive thank you to everyone who supported our #Movember2023 team effort this year. Although not quite reaching the lofty heights of last year (over $1400, raised), we are nonetheless happy with the $1,079 raised which will go a long way to support men’s mental and physical health initiatives.

Recently some of the team along with partners and family spent a fun day volunteering on Quail Island in Lyttelton Harbour. Along with Ian and Pat from the Quail Island Ecological Restoration Trust, we enjoyed a stunning bluebird day removing wilding pines and macrocarpa seedlings, with a lavish picnic lunch thrown in and time left over to explore the island and relax on the beach afterwards.

Today we warmly welcome summer interns Amy Dunn and Azrie Azizi to the ViaStrada team!

Amy is currently in her second year of study at the University of Canterbury where she is studying Environmental Science majoring in Environmental Change while Azrie recently finished his studies at The University of Auckland where he conducted his final research project on 'Understanding mode choices of New Zealanders - Can we make more sustainable travel?'

Great to hear ViaStrada's research by Glen on 'How we sell the Benefits of Lower Speeds?' is generating interest across the industry with Waka Kotahi and Tasman District amongst those requesting more info.  His think piece to reduce deaths and serious injuries was used at the National Lifeline Utilities Forum 2023 by Keynote Speaker, Simon Kingham, Senior Advisor Ministry of Transport.

A recent example of ViaStrada’s SIDRA capabilities is Megan’s modelling of two signalised intersections in New Plymouth, as part of the Transport Choices programme. ViaStrada has identified several challenges in modelling filter turning across cycleways and has developed methods to deal with these.

This month we warmly welcome Pim van den Top to our team.

Pim is joining ViaStrada as a full-time Transportation Planner. Pim has a Bachelor of Urban Planning (Honours) from the University of Auckland and has over 2.5 years of experience as a transport planner. Most recently, Pim worked at Aecom, and has been involved in a variety of types of projects including business cases, concept designs, and data analytics.
