How do we make cycle-friendly cities?

Where presented/published

U3A, Timaru

The University of the Third Age (U3A) is an international movement whose aims are the education and stimulation of mainly retired members of the community—those in their third 'age' of life. The Timaru chapter of U3A was established in 2009 and holds regular guest presentations on a wide variety of topics.

Glen Koorey was invited to speak to U3A Timaru in Oct 2023 on "How do we make cycle-friendly cities?" New Zealand is starting to see a shift in providing more opportunities for safer cycling, and for a wider range of people. But what exactly is needed to get more people cycling regularly in NZ, and how do we get there? This presentation provided a wide-ranging overview of what “good” cycling provision looks like, using best practice examples from here and overseas.
