Transportation engineering

We undertake a wide range of transport engineering services, including
  • Road safety audits (all stages), including Safety Audit & Network Functionality (SANF) reviews
  • Scheme investigation studies for corridors, intersections and areas
  • Traffic signal designs and reviews
  • Speed management reviews/strategies
  • Pedestrian and cycle facility designs and reviews
  • Car parking and access design/reviews
  • Road safety and geometric design reviews
  • Level Crossing Safety Impact Assessments (LCSIAs)
  • Formal trials of new/innovative traffic control devices and design layouts
Notable recent projects include:

design planPNCC engaged ViaStrada to undertake scheme and detail design stage road safety audits of a number of roundabout upgrades at city intersections.

QAC plotA significant increase in passenger numbers at Queenstown Airport put pressure on many parts of the existing infrastructure. ViaStrada developed multiple concept through to design plans including significant changes to the roading network and car and coach parking areas. All proposed works were incorporated in a staged Master Plan.

Location planViaStrada was engaged by the NZ Transport Agency to assess the impact of a proposed new subdivision on the existing local road network.

Scheme design of cycle linkViaStrada was commissioned to prepare a concept plan with design options for the Eltham Road / Beaver Road corridor, an important north/south link across Blenheim that serves three major schools and a day care centre.

Marshland proposed signalsViaStrada was engaged by Christchurch City Council to carry out a scheme design safety audit of a proposed signalised intersection on Marshland Road.

Site planViaStrada was engaged by Rotorua Lakes Council (RLC) to undertake a detail design stage road safety audit of the proposed shared use path on Ranolf Street between Arawa Street and Sophia Street.

Bealey Madras

ViaStrada was commissioned by Christchurch City Council to undertake a detail design stage road safety audit of interim works at the Bealey Avenue / Madras Street intersection.

ViaStrada has been commissioned by Napier City Council (NCC) to conduct a post construction assessment that takes into account usability and safety for all pathway and road users, from the cyclist ‘target audience’ point of view.  There are two paths audited in this report, the Westminster Avenue path and the Marewa path largely following urban drainage channels.

Augustine Halswell designViaStrada was commissioned by Christchurch City Council to undertake the scheme stage and detail design stage road safety audit of a proposed signalised intersection on Halswell Road in Aidanfield.

Contra-flow cycling signAuckland Transport commissioned ViaStrada to develop and investigate some options for providing contraflow cycling on three suburban one-way streets. In the absence of current design guidance or practical examples for New Zealand, a “first principles” approach was taken to consider all possible ways to provide for contra-flow cycling on the streets in question.
