Assessment of loud vehicle, speed change and nuisance noise from road transport
What causes the loud, isolated vehicle noise events that communities often report near roads? This three-year research project investigated the role of traffic behaviour and road features—including profiled line markings, speed platforms, roundabouts, and intersections—in generating these events.
ViaStrada was pleased to contribute to this research, working with Altissimo Consulting Ltd and Tonkin + Taylor to investigate the relationship between road design, driver behaviour, and vehicle noise. The findings highlight the complexity of the issue and provide a foundation for future noise mitigation strategies.
