Road Safety Platform in Taranaki makes crossing highway safer

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency requested a proposal for undertaking the detailed design for a signalised pedestrian crossing on State Highway 3 in Inglewood. This was a joint project for Waka Kotahi and New Plymouth District Council.

This is the first Road Safety Platform (RSP) designed by ViaStrada that has been built on a State Highway. RSPs reduce operating speed and road safety is hence improved.

Many children must cross the State Highway to get to school and having been involved in the design of the new crossing it's been ViaStrada’s pleasure to make Inglewood safer. Having met the stakeholders, it's clear this means a lot to them. “Thanks so much for building this for us” is what the two children in the photo said.

It's been a collaborative effort from Concept to Design to Safety in Design to Construction Drawings, and a stellar effort by all contractors to get this project completed.
