Thoughts from the TG Conference 2024
ViaStrada team members Axel Downard-Wilke, John Lieswyn and Pim van den Top attended the
Transportation Group 2024 Conference in Nelson 10–12 June 2024.
We hobnobbed with political leaders of every persuasion, bridging divides and working to become
“Better Ancestors”.
Axel and Pim both presented. Axel explained how we can make traffic signals work better for people cycling and Pim showed how ‘every bus stop counts’ in building a picture of Dunedin’s bus stop inventory. John was kept busy as the Transportation Group’s chairperson, opening and closing the conference, moderating panels, recognising life members, and awarding certificates for the best contributions.
Many of the presentations were thoughtful and made attendees think or smile. Apart from the keynotes, among our favourites were Kylie Huard (who convinced us that parking in Queenstown is bonkers), Dilys Fong (who sang part of her presentation), and Jamie McPherson (who told a few hilarious “behind-the-scene” stories that could not possibly be repeated).
