Traffic Safety Assessment for Subdivision - Mclaughlins Road

ViaStrada was engaged to provide a traffic safety assessment in response to a Request for Information from the Selwyn District Council regarding a proposed large-lot subdivision at 617 Mclaughlins Road. 

Two of the subdivision accesses did not comply with District Plan sightline rules predicated on posted speed limits. These rules were written prior to the availability of traffic speed data from mobile phones. ViaStrada determined that based on the road geometry and actual speed profile, a lesser sight distance than required in the District Plan is acceptable from a traffic safety standpoint. 

This is an example of pragmatic traffic engineering to support land development. The assessment was completed on short notice in just two days.
