Background

ViaStrada was engaged to support our client in reconfirming access to State Highway 75 (SH75), the Christchurch to Akaroa Road, for a proposed subdivision development.

Our role included a comprehensive review of previous documentation related to the site, including sourcing and verifying historic NZ Transport Agency approvals. We also assessed any changes in the traffic and planning environment since the original permissions were granted, ensuring that current conditions still support the proposed access arrangement.

As part of our work, we visited the site, taking sightline measurements and making safety assessment observations. We produced a detailed memo summarising our findings and provided clear recommendations on the way forward. This was supported by a Traffic Safety Assessment (TSA), which considered the potential impacts of the proposed subdivision on road safety, particularly in the context of SH75's function as a key route between Christchurch and Akaroa.

Our thorough review and evidence-based recommendations helped provide the client with the information needed to progress their development with confidence and in alignment with regulatory requirements.
