Prestons Road Safety Audit – Mitre 10 Frontage

ViaStrada was commissioned to carry out a detailed design stage Safe System Audit of the proposed road changes outside the new Mitre 10 Mega on Prestons Road. The audit was undertaken in accordance with the NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi Safe System Audit Guidelines (2022).

Scope of the Audit
The audit assessed the safety performance of the proposed infrastructure, including:

•  Road widening works
•  New and modified traffic islands
•  A relocated bus stop
•  Updated road markings and signage

Audit Process
The audit focused on identifying potential safety concerns associated with the detailed design. A daytime site visit was completed, allowing the audit team to observe existing road conditions, traffic movements, and surrounding land uses.

Report
The final report includes a review of available crash data, identification of safety concerns, and a set of recommendations to support safer outcomes for all road users.
