Konsult - Knowledge base on Sustainable Urban Land Use and Transport

8th May 2008

Here's an excellent resource from the UK on sustainable transport and land use.

KonSULT is designed to help policy makers, professionals and interest groups to understand the challenges of achieving sustainability in urban transport, and to identify appropriate policies. It has been developed with support from the European Commission, the UK Department for Transport, the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and the Rees Jeffreys Road Fund. It contains three levels of information:

Home (the current level) provides general introductory material and a facility to register queries, comments and suggestions.

Transport strategy: a Decision-Maker’s Guidebook presents the challenges facing those responsible for urban transport policy, offers a logical structure for tackling those challenges, and provides guidance on each stage in that logical structure. It is based on a four year research programme under the European Commission’s City of Tomorrow programme. A fuller outline is given in the Introductory Page to the Decision-Maker's Guidebook.

Policy instruments: a Policy Guidebook provides information on each of the policy instruments available to urban transport planners. It adopts an approach which is consistent with the logical structure in the Decision-Maker’s Guidebook, and provides consistent and comparable assessment from first principles and based on case studies. A fuller outline is given in the Introductory Page to the Policy Guidebook.
