Background

The Transport Agency required technically skilled resources to deliver succinct and technically accurate planning and design content, which contribute to NZTA's walking outcomes. The work reviewed and updated the Pedestrian Planning Network Guidance and RTS14 Guidelines for facilities for blind and vision impaired pedestrians, but not limiting to and incorporating the latest best practice on urban & street design, accessibility and liveability concepts.

ViaStrada staff led the introduction, overview of walking, safety analyses, path design, monitoring and audit/review tools sections. ViaStrada and Abley co-developed and peer reviewed other PNG sections, including crossings, intersections, and investing for walking.
