ViaStrada assessed options to improve safety and accessibility at the Railway Reserve crossing on Songer Street, a location with an ongoing history of crashes involving pedestrians and cyclists. The review considered the needs of all crossing users, including people walking, cycling and using mobility devices, and evaluated how different treatments would address the site's safety and operational challenges.

While lower-order crossing treatments performed well in economic assessments, the site's crash history and continued safety issues highlighted the limitations of relying solely on driver awareness and compliance. The assessment ultimately supported the installation of pedestrian and cycle signals on a raised platform as the most effective solution, providing a safer, more accessible crossing that aligns with Safe System principles and the needs of vulnerable road users.
