Pines be gone!

ViaStrada’s Vision, Purpose, and Values include caring for our planet by encouraging climate-mitigating solutions and enriching our communities and the environment through the work with do.  We also recognise that in addition to environmentally conscious designs and business practices in transport planning, we can also contribute to our wider community outside of the transportation sector.

Giving back to our community is important to us and recently (during Canterbury Anniversary weekend) some of the team along with partners and family spent the day volunteering on Quail Island in Lyttelton Harbour. Joined by Ian and Pat from the Quail Island Ecological Restoration Trust, we learnt about the trust’s efforts to restore, encourage and protect native flora and fauna on the island. Our work for the day included removing unwanted seedlings: wilding pines, macrocarpa and bone seed. We enjoyed a stunning blue-sky day, a delicious picnic lunch, and time to explore and relax on the beach after our mahi.
