2011 Transportation Conference

The 2011 Transportation Conference was held in Auckland from 28 to 30 March. It was a well organised and attended conference, including interesting technical tours, a great conference dinner in a historic church, a good networking opportunity and excellent continuing professional development opportunities. ViaStrada contributed with the following papers, technical notes, posters and presentations:
- Pedestrian LOS at traffic signals. A project for Christchurch City Council that delivered excellent results and developed a new methodology for measuring level of service for pedestrians at signals that goes beyond measuring delay. Axel Wilke was the lead author and presenter of this paper.
- Rebuilding the Streets of Kaiapoi after the Canterbury Earthquake. Jeanette Ward was the lead author and presenter of this paper that deals with Waimakariri District Council's response to the September 2010 earthquake.
- Cycle counting programme in Hamilton. A project for Hamilton City Council to develop a cycle counting strategy. John Lieswyn was the lead author of this paper, which got presented as a poster.
- Separated Bicycle Facilities in Christchurch. A pilot project for Christchurch City Council to investigate the feasibility of linking the University of Canterbury with the central city with cycle facilities that are separate from traffic. Andrew Macbeth was the lead author of this technical note, which got presented as a poster.
