The growth of online shopping has increased demand for home deliveries, creating challenges such as failed delivery attempts, additional vehicle travel, and higher emissions. This study examines Christchurch residents’ preferences for different delivery time slots to understand whether off-peak deliveries could improve delivery efficiency and sustainability.
Based on a survey of 355 residents, the research found that consumers strongly preferred late afternoon deliveries (3 p.m. to 6 p.m.), while off-peak delivery options were generally less attractive. The findings provide valuable insights for freight operators, e-commerce businesses, and transport planners seeking to develop more efficient and sustainable last-mile delivery services.
