Cycle parking planning and design guide

ViaStrada staff augmented their extensive experience using and designing cycle parking with a literature review of European guidance, the Australian standard (which has substantial gaps), and the very lengthy Austroads guidance. Our project lead, John Lieswyn, was at that time a board member of Bikes Welcome, an NGO dedicated to improving cycle parking across New Zealand, and had been developing a best practice guide already. John led the preparation of the Waka Kotahi guide and included feedback from councils and Waka Kotahi representatives on the Active Modes Infrastructure Group. ViaStrada's key innovation was the development of a single page dimensioned plan that covers all aspects of on-street and indoor parking layouts. The resulting guide is a concise how-to for architects, engineers and planners available online.
