Directional cycle signals (SNUG 2021)

A formal trial for directional cycle signals was completed in 2019 based on two sites in Auckland and Christchurch, respectively. The final report was submitted in September 2019. Megan reported on the project status at the 2018 SNUG Workshop in Hamilton, and this presentation is an update. There is no known timeline yet for when the required rules changes (both the Traffic Control Devices Rule and the Road User Rule need updating) will be implemented. The presentation also highlighted findings from one site in Christchurch that demonstrate what designers and signal operators ought to be aware of to prevent safety problems.
