We are super proud that ViaStrada's Axel Downard-Wilke joins the list of notable people on Wikipedia. To qualify for a page, a person must go beyond temporary popularity into the realm of significance. "A person is presumed to be notable if they have received significant coverage in reliable secondary sources that are independent of the subject."
Autobiographies are not permitted; independent volunteer Wikipedia authors research and write all profiles.
Axel is one of the founding Directors of ViaStrada and has an expansive career in transportation engineering and planning. Motivated by the climate crisis, Axel has long advocated for cycling in urban environments and wanted to improve public transport and reduce greenhouse emissions. Now residing in Golden Bay, he continues to give back, taking up the role of chairperson of the Golden Bay Cycle and Walkways Society, working with landowners, the wider community, and Tasman District for more and safer cycling infrastructure in the region.
