Project Status

First stage complete, with five models tested, resulting in a recommended model. ARTA and Auckland City Council have asked ViaStrada to work with Opus International Consultants (Auckland) on the next project stage, combining their expertise to develop a methodology to identify and prioritise new routes in the regional cycle network, using Auckland City as a test case.

Background

MWH New Zealand Ltd (Christchurch now Stantec) and ViaStrada evaluated five different potential cycle network models. The client for this work was ARTA, the Auckland Regional Transport Authority. The client's British expert peer reviewer thought that our GIS-based methodology, using Auckland demographic data and existing transport models, was "pretty clever". Our work was used to develop a methodology to identify and prioritise new routes in the regional cycle network.

The end result of this project stage was a clear idea of how to develop the regional cycling network. And it resulted in a happy client.
