Background
ViaStrada were commissioned by Christchurch City Council to undertake scheme & detail design and post-construction stage road safety audits of the public transport priority treatments proposed for Main North Road in Papanui, from Harewood Road to Sawyers Arms Road. This was a series of intersection and mid-block measures, including bus lanes, new kerb lines and road signs/markings, and adjusted walking & cycling facilities. The team undertook site visits and considered potential safety issues for different road users.
While seconded to Christchurch City Council, ViaStrada's Axel Wilke had also provided design advice to the original concept development of this project.
