Twin Tunnels Trail (Mosgiel to Dunedin)

The Dunedin Tunnels Trail Trust (DTTT) project is to provide a 15 km safe and user-friendly cycle and walking trail between Dunedin and Mosgiel. It includes two redundant rail tunnels at Chain Hills and Caversham built in the 1870s.

ViaStrada was engaged by Dunedin City Council (DCC) to undertake an independent, Waka Kotahi compliant concept design safety audit to support the Single Stage Business Case council was preparing. ViaStrada identified several areas where user experience and safety improvements could be made along the urban sections, and provided an alternative route, more closely aligned with (DTTT) objectives.
