Publication "Pedestrian Planning and Design Guide"

Background

Megan Fowler's first project at ViaStrada was to assist Tim Hughes of Land Transport New Zealand (now the New Zealand Transport Agency) in completing the Pedestrian Planning and Design Guide.

The guide, which has been developed over the last three years is a tool for engineers and planners to aid in the provision for pedestrians. It covers a wide range of issues from planning for pedestrians at a network level to design of individual elements and post-implementation monitoring. Megan's involvement, in the latter stages of the project included proof-reading, creating of diagrams, choosing photos of examples and writing of text. She also helped Tim develop a short course on the guide. ViaStrada is currently involved in the development of a nation-wide fundamentals of designing for pedestrians training course.

The guide is available online on the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) website.
