NZ Planning Conference

The 2010 conference of the New Zealand Planning Institute was held in Christchurch during April. ViaStrada sponsored the conference by offering guided cycle tours for conference attendees. The tours focused on land use and transport planning points of interest along a scenic circuit including Hagley Park, Mona Vale and the Cultural Precinct. Some 60 conference attendees took up the offer, and four groups enjoyed an outing during best autumn weather.

The tours presented an ideal opportunity to link planning, urban design and transport issues and were guided by ViaStrada's planners and traffic engineers. Sharing ideas amongst the professions is one of the most useful aspects of the Urban Design Protocol, of which ViaStrada is a foundation signatory (through one of our predecessor companies).

The brochure for ViaStrada's Christchurch City Cycle Tour is available on our website. It provides information on the points of interest and includes a map, so that those interested in these issues can do the cycle tour in their own time. Allowing an hour and a half for the tour will ensure the ride can be undertaken in a leisurely fashion with ample time for stops to review the brochure and consider the highlighted land use and transport planning issues.
