Hastings Walking and Cycling Strategy: beyond iWay
The Hastings walking and cycling initiatives have inspired the community and made positive differences for not just transport, but for tourism, recreation, health and the local economy. The draft strategy "Beyond iWay - Hastings Walking and Cycling Strategy to 2022" outlines an ambitious yet achievable programme to continue investment in walking and cycling over the next ten years.

In 2009, Gehl Architects prepared a study entitled Public Space Public Life (2010) that considered how people use public spaces and streets in central Christchurch. This precedent study resulted in Christchurch City Council's adoption of A City for People Action Plan (2010), which includes 66 related actions based on the recommendations in the study.
Some of those actions were addressed by this project, which was delivered in two stages.

ViaStrada was engaged by the NZTA to carry out a detail design stage safety audit of a proposed roundabout on Tay Street, Invercargill. The intersection is the main entrance to the city for drivers travelling southwest on SH1. ViaStrada prepared a NZTA-compliant detail design stage road safety audit for the proposed the roundabout. The roundabout is in a 50-km/h urban area on the eastern end of Tay Street (SH1) and replaces the existing priority-controlled crossroads.

ViaStrada assisted CCC staff with analysis and planning for future rapid public transport (PT) corridors to stimulate land development and improve access for Christchurch. This could include conventional bus services, bus priority measures, busways, light rail and heavy rail. We helped review options for rapid PT services to various suburbs and provided advice on potential central city PT modes, routes and station locations.

Following the 4 September 2010 earthquake, the Waimakariri District Council formed an Infrastructure Recovery Unit (IRU) from local professional experts to develop new designs and rebuild plans for the damaged infrastructure in Kaiapoi and the nearby beach settlements of Pines Beach and Kairaki.

ViaStrada was commissioned by Palmerston North City Council (PNCC) to peer review the concept plans of proposed changes to Walding Street, an arterial road that forms part of the city's ring road system. The project's objective was to improve safety and efficiency of the ring road for all users.
This desktop review was based on concept plans that PNCC had prepared. The review identified issues or concerns regarding the concept plan design and included possible alternatives. Indicative sketches were included where necessary to identify or clarify comments noted.
